BALLAD BREWING ANNOUNCES FUNKFEST 2023 LINEUP

A celebration of all things funky- Ballad Brewing’s FunkFest in Danville, Virginia is around the corner on Saturday, January 28th.

Ballad Brewing is getting ready to kick off their biggest event of the year. FunkFest is an annual celebration of all things Funky from beer to music in Danville, Virginia! This event is completely free to attend and ALL are welcome.

THE BEER

The most important ingredient for FunkFest: a completely stacked “funky” beer list. These 10 sour ales include exclusive releases. Some of these selections will be limited to one keg and will certainly sell out before the day is done!

“I love the challenge of creating new flavors for our FunkFest exclusive sours year after year,” said Head Brewer, Chris Myers. “As our sour program expands, we are looking to go beyond just fruit and into herbs, spices, and other flavorings. We aim not to just use ingredients that are unique for the sake of it, but find a way to use them in a beer that our customers will enjoy. Like music, we want to incorporate motifs of our predecessors while still making something that we can call our own”

As always, Ballad will have a wide selection of non-sour beers and alcohol-free options, so that all palettes and preferences are welcome at the celebration.

THE MUSIC

Since its first year, Funkfest has included the band Apple Butter Soul in the lineup. Apple Butter Soul is one of the region’s most electrifying Jazz, Funk, and R&B bands. This group will surely have you out of your seats and on the dance floor. Ballad Head Brewer, Chris, will be spinning funk records to start getting you grooving from 1-4 pm and Apple Butter Soul will take the stage at 6 pm.

“It’s crazy to think this is the 4th FunkFest that we’ve done,” said Business Manager, Austin Bunn. “It’s always such a fun event with a very creative and exclusive selection of sours from our brew team. Apple Butter Soul is one of the best bands to ever play in our taproom, and we look forward to welcoming them back this year. Our Head Brewer, Chris, is an avid vinyl collector and will pull from his funk collection for the day.”

THE FOOD

This year, Ballad is adding some local funky food elements to the mix!

Fresh Danville, Virginia favorite, Ga-te Shoken Foodtruck, will be providing a delicious selection of Asian Street Food starting between 1-2 PM until they sell out. Tart beers will be the perfect refreshing compliment to this cuisine for lunch, dinner, or a snack at FunkFest!

Danville’s Ma’s Cakes is also joining in the fun with a cupcake pairing! The delicious cake bakery will set up shop at noon while supplies last.

Said Business Manager, Austin Bunn, of the pairing: “We’re very excited to team up with Ma’s Cakes for a cupcake pairing with our sours. If you’ve never had their cakes, you’re missing out. This FunkFest is shaping up to be the best one yet, and we hope to see everyone there!”

THE FUNKFEST PACK

If you would rather get funky at home, Ballad is releasing a “FunkFest Pack” that includes two cans of each of the following: Blueberry Pancake Sour, Thai Sour, Sugar Plum Gose, Cranberry Sour, and a crowler of White Wine Barrel Aged Thai Sour.

A virtual tasting video provided by Ballad’s Head Brewer will go along with all of the ales in The Pack! A QR code will be provided with an order of The Pack to access this video.
